Why Jerusalem was Important
Jerusalem was important to the Christians, Muslims, and the Jews. For the three religions, Jerusalem was referred to as the Holy City. Jerusalem was important to the Christian religion because it was where Jesus had lived and preached. It was also where Jesus died and it was where his tomb was. Jerusalem was important to the Islam religion because it was where the prophet Muhammad ascended to Heaven.For the Jews, it was imporant because it the site of the ancient temples that were built by King Solomon and that were destroyed by Trajan in about 70 A.D. Also, Jews came to Jerusalem about 3 times a year for special holidays.
